In 2013, at the initiative of our club, we organized our first Alley of Hearts, in partnership with Odorheiu Secuiesc City Hall, under the aegis of the National Heart Foundation in Romania. On the last Sunday of September, World Heart Day, we inaugurated the alley, along which we had previously planted maple saplings.
The idea was simple, the route was given. We didn’t do anything special but placed a billboard on the alley so that pedestrians could easily measure the distance traveled. We encourage everyone to walk down the alley as often as possible, improving their heart function, health and physical well-being.
In 2016, the walk, which has since become an annual event, was completed with a photo contest on the theme “Hearts in nature”, in collaboration with Spektrum Photo Association. The purpose of the photo contest is to encourage people to go for walks in nature, pleasant walks in our immediate or remote surroundings, and thus create the connection with our original project.
The “icing on the cake” is to walk around with your eyes open and observe, photograph and capture heart-shaped formations that spontaneously appear in nature. Out of the hundreds of photos sent to each contest, 30-40 are displayed each year along the alley, and the best of these are chosen by those who walk, they become winners.
The laminated photos will also be exhibited at the Run for it! event, and some of the photos will be donated to the cardiology department of the Municipal Hospital in Odorheiu Secuiesc.
We encourage everyone to walk along the promenade as often as possible, thus improving their heart function, health and well-being!
